A team of scientists has developed a computerized technique to read thoughts. The new technique can predict with a significant level of success the images that people look through ultrasound studying brain activity. The study could be the first step towards a method to visualize scenes from dreams or memory of a person.

The American scientists used ultrasound equipment MRI, which normally is used in diagnostic clinics, to observe patterns of brain activity when a patient examined some photos in black and white. With this method, a computer could make predictions about what image was looking at the patient, with a probability of success of 90 per cent.

According to an article published in Nature by Profresor Jack Gallant at the University of California at Berkeley and director of the study, the results indicate that it will soon be possible to reconstruct an image of the visual experience of a person at any point in time simply by measuring its brain activity.
