Tour from Malaga

Any day you choose, you can enjoy a fantastic and absolutely affordable trip and return the same day at night, after having enjoyed a large amount of possibilities in Andalusia. Malaga is an excellent base from where to make fantastic tours through Andalusia. We proceed to analyze some of the most popular tours that can be done in just one day if you wish, or more if you just want to know them thoroughly.

My last experience and of which I keep a more recent memory, was to go to Granada by the inland road from Malaga and then back along the Costa del Sol; if you want to know the most beautiful views of Malaga and Andalusia, although I cannot say that they are the best, since I have not visited all that I'd like to visit, they are highly recommended.

Simply driving along the motorway towards Granada presents us with views of the cemetery of Casabermeja with historical value or invites us to the numerous inns where you can taste delicious dishes from the area. Driving along the area of "RIO FRIO", a place famous for its trout, there is an inn where you can savor them next the roadside.
Driving along this road is not boring at all, you can enjoy beautiful views, interesting abandoned houses and stopovers where to satisfy our appetite with great-tasting dishes.

What can we find in Granada?

Our arrival is announced by a detour which takes us into the city of Granada; a bit confusing can be the underground works that are currently underway in 2010. If you plan to get into the city to try the tapas, one of the things that Granada is famous for, we recommend parking in the many car parks nearby.
Be careful or you get fined, there are some camera-monitored areas where only buses and taxis can operate.

A walk and a meal at any of the numerous bars in Granada will quench our appetite if we arrived at lunchtime as was my case. Later, we wash it down with a little stroll, although what I did was to take the car again to get to the Alhambra, which I wanted to visit. Although it might seem complicated, all you have to do is go back to the highway and go towards Sierra Nevada; the street signs indicate well the direction to take to get to the Alhambra, you can´t get lost and it has very easy access.

The views from the Alhambra over Granada are spectacular and you will be sorry of not having brought a camera. In my case I can´t give any opinion of the Alhambra itself, as the guard at the door told us that we must draw tickets over the Internet in advance. Take it into account if you plan to visit this world heritage site.

To the Costa del Sol from Granada

When returning, I decided to go through Almuñecar and thus enjoy the coastal views and no doubt it was a great choice, as I discovered the Parque Natural Sierras de Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara, a mountain pass in at a detour of the motorway to Motril.
It is a popular road among cyclists coming up the mountain pass from Almuñecar and very narrow, so I suggest you drive carefully. You will find many beautiful places and points of interest such as the ibex viewpoint, an abandoned lodging / restaurant with beautiful views. Continuing our journey through the mountain pass, we come to Otivar, a typical white Andalusian village of great beauty for lovers of hiking and nature.

Continuing our way, we finally get to Almuñecar, where we stop for a while and have a drink, enjoy an afternoon at the beach or take stroll to stretch the legs.

Heading back to Malaga

On our way back to Malaga we drive through famous landmarks such as Nerja and its Aguila aqueduct, built in the mid-nineteenth century, or the Caves of Nerja.
Along the coastal road we can save some surprises, see deers in the woods along the highway or a beautiful sunset, which however can bother while driving, so we recommend you do not forget your sunglasses.

Without doubt it is a highly recommended trip and I would not mind repeating it. To enjoy so many things in just one day was only possible by going in car... and will raise your appetite to know more of Andalusia, and even for the people of Malaga who would like to do this route.
