GNU Linux, before and nowI remember the first time I decided to install Linux on my computer. we were in 1999 and It was a red hat 6. Something which caught my attention while loading the operating system, were all those lines that were appearing with a green Ok. Compared with the legendary windows screens with clouds it seemed from another world, a very far and distant world. But GNU/Linux is actually much more than that old and not friendly Operative System...continue reading to know more of my experience with Linux. In the past there were times when installing any type of device that you just could become crazy and end kicking the computer, the keyboard and fire the installation CD. In the past, something as easy as loading the drivers for a 56K modem could take a very long time and a compilation of the kernel. Times were hard as learning, but the results were worth. Linux actuallyActually things have changed, Some Linux distributions like Debian made things much easier and Ubuntu (based on Debian) even more for those who just dont want to spend time learning. Installing Windows 7 is actually harder and takes longer than installing Ubuntu 11.04. (Im using a Intel I7 processor with 6gb or tri-channel ram and Ati HD 3870. I dont want people telling me of not using a powerful computer for such afirmation) There are many types of users out there, let´s review some of them:
Download UbuntuIf you have a 64 bits computer choose the 64 bits version, otherwise the 32. If you dont know what Im talking about, ask someone to do this for you: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download Download Linux Minthttp://www.linuxmint.com/download.php Linux Mint is my prefered system after Ubuntu added unity. Some advantages of Linux
Linux is the Future The future is exclusively for Linux, that is something we all have clear..Android is getting on the market for smart phones, and Linux will be the dominant OS on desktops, however this is something yet to come. We can find right now quality games for Linux using Open GL 4 (similar to Direct X11) and the installation of our graphic card is easier than in Windows, the system itself suggest us to install while installing the OS. If you want to take a look to the future, just try Ubuntu. If you dare and you like learning there are many other distributions to take a look like Debian, the one others are based in.
