The province of Malaga is located between the Mediterranean Sea and mountain ranges and therefore not only blessed with a fantastic climate but as well with breathtaking natural surroundings. Basically, we can divide the province of Malaga into the littoral where is situated the world renowned Costa del Sol with its popular beach resorts and the unspoiled mountainous inlands. Situated in the mountains and on mountain slopes are the white villages of Moorish origin, with small whitewashed houses and steep, narrow streets. White villages situated close to the Costa del Sol are for instance Mijas and Casares. Mijas is situated in the close by mountain slopes over Fuengirola. There you can find many shops selling local handiwork and restaurants with stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea. Casares is a white village situated in the Sierra Bermeja mountain ranges of Estepona, in the Western Costa del Sol. The Axarquía is Malaga’s most eastern municipality, framed in the north by the Tejada and Almijara mountain ranges bordering the province of Granada. The interior, with an outstanding landscape offers a set of white villages with steep and narrow streets with orchards, citrus, olives, grapes, almonds and avocados. Sierra de las NievesThe Biosphere Reserve of Sierra de las Nieves contains an enormous natural treasure with infinity of flora and fauna, of which some are quite unique in the world, such as the Spanish fir. The Sierra de las Nieves is part of the Serranía de Ronda mountain ranges with a total of 4 natural Parks. Genuine flavors and local products are the hallmarks of the local cuisine with the tradition of generations. Visiting the mountain villages is a suggestive invitation to recall the past, as show many monuments, as for instance in Ronda, an ancient city with great part of well preserved fortifications. Its huge bridge over the gorge is famous and has breathtaking views. In the north of the province of Malaga is situated Antequera. The municipality offers a varying landscape fields and meadows, the Fuente de Piedra Lagoon and the spectacular Sierra del Torcal. Further ahead, the rivers flow into beautiful lakes and on the mountains stand ancient fortresses, linking nature and history and making this route to one of the most attractive in Andalusia. The river Guadalhorce, after passing through Antequera, crosses the mountain range at the spectacular Desfiladero de los Gaitanes between pine trees and Spanish firs and further on forms the Guadalhorce Valley in the south of the province Malaga. This valley is characterized by its fertility and the cultivation of vegetables, fruit and citrus and therefore as well known as the orchard of Malaga. For a closer examination of the inhabitants of Valle del Guadalhorce it is not necessary to observe them repeatedly, as the same result will be their hospitality.
