Media Codecs and players Guide.

It is a very common problem eMule download a movie and not being able to reproduce it properly (see or hear) and it is because we do not have the codec required for this. Following this manual we can replicate 99% of the movies that circulate through the Internet.

A film is made up of Container + Video + Audio. Therefore we need to reproduce that our computer "understands" 3 things.

     * The Container - is simply the file packaged Video and Audio. The most famous is the AVI, that our computer does not do anything, but now there are others like MATROSKA (with extension. MKV) and the GM for whom if we need to install some filters on our computer. These last containers allow meter in the same file subtitles, caratulas, images, video, divided into chapters ...
     * Video - A trail of uncompressed video deal barbaric, it will always encrypted in any format to take much less. We often use codecs as DivX, XviD, MPEG2 ...
     * Audio - Just as is done with the video, audio also be consolidated. It is often used as MP3 codecs, which means our computer without installing anything, but there are others such as AC3 and OGG that if we have to install filters or codecs so that the computer understands. A film could have 2 audio tracks, for example, one in Spanish and one in English, and when this happens they say that the film is DUAL Spanish-English; To access the 2 audio tracks do not need any codec or anything; merely that our player supporting something that the Windows Media Player does!.

Therefore, to see and hear any video or film need 4 things:

    1. The Video codec
    2. Audio codec
    3. Support container: avi, Matroska (mkv ),...
    4. A Player

This manual will codecs that are required to install to see movies divx and xvid. Tanbien recommend players more useful. All codecs and programs that are on this page are free.

To view videos in DivX XviD and download all codec and files shown below.

How do I know when codecs uses a film or video? For this we can use the program Gspot. At the end of this document have information on.

To play currently 99% of the films and videos sent via the Internet must be installed as follows (According to my recommendation):

DivX Codec Matroska Pack + + + Codec XviD Codec Ogg / Vorbis (2 files: subs and audio decoder) ===> All this can be found in the manual.

Other codecs little used, are not covered in this guide:

     * "Advanced Audio Coding" (. AAC)
     * "Monkey's Voice" (. Ape)
     * "MOD (Tracker) Audio Files" (. Mo3,. It,. Xm,. S3m,. Mtm, and courage. Umx)

There pack codecs, it does not deal with that in the guide. This guide serves to understand who does what and not having to install hundreds of codec in our computer inecesariamente. But it is also true that some codecs pack funcioan very well and they forget about downloading multiple files and provide support to above formats rare little used but if you avoid future problems with any das.

Video codecs:

For DivX:

Just need a file that is on the Web official DivX very easy to download. Includes a pretty good player (DivX Player).

DivX Codec

     * Official web site: www.divx.com
     * Download page: www.divx.com / divx

For XviD:

Everything you need to XviD we can lose web CanalXviD, a fantastic web where we will find all the information on this codec. To work XviD is not only necessary 'XviD Codec', but the 'FDDshow' and the audio codec that uses it but gives an error when playing even if you initially installed XviD codec and what it is missing codec sound.

XviD Codec

This is the video codec. There are many different compilations of this docec, but in the end all are equal. We go to the download page of this Web site and in the section "Codecs" downloaded codec 'XviD' (in its latest version stable beech).

     * Recommended Web: http://www.canalxvid.com/

FFDshow

It is a video filter. For XviD necessary. Download 'FFDshow' in its latest version available.

Important Note: It comes included in the Matroska Pack, which speak below, so it is advisable not to download it now and we will come to the Matroska Pack downloaded below.

     * The official website of the project: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/

Audio codecs:

The codec is more common MP3. But too many others are used as AC3, which allows sound 5.1, or OGG. As it is necessary to have installed filters, and these past 2 codec formats.

We assume that the MP3 Codec installed, as it is installed only with Windows. Also the Codec WMA, because it comes with the Windows Media Player. To get the latest version, install the latest Windows Media Player or search the Web from Microsoft.

Ogg / Vorbis

It is a codec sound very good and completely free (open source). Its use is not yet widespread because players divx successfully on most do not bear at the moment. They say it's better even than the Mp3 and has advantages as it can go 5.1 or 2.0.

The files. OGG audio files are loose, like a song, it is equivalent to an Mp3. The arhivos. Ogm tend to be a film container with GMO and uses OGG audio codec; container MATROSKA can also carry audio tracks in OGG.

This download is a zip containing two files: one is the audio codec and one subtitles. Typically installed also filter subtitles.

     * The official website of the project: http://www.vorbis.com/ (not downloads here)

AC3 Filters

Allows include sound AC3 5.1 to DivX and XviD, that is the sound that carry DVDs. This being worn today.

Important Note: It comes included in the Matroska Pack, which speak below, so it is advisable not to download it now and we will come to the Matroska Pack downloaded below.

     * Official web site: http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/
     * Official website (SourceForge Project): http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/

Containers:

The containers are packaging where this film, with its hint of video, audio and others. The container most commonly used so far is AVI. There is a new container open source, they say it's very good, is called Matroska. It starts to be used by Ripers so we must have it installed. There is also the GM, but is used less. It has recently emerged. Divx that have drawn the boys DivX and allowing among other things the inclusion of menus, and DVDs.

The AVI understands Windows without installing anything. The GMO if the codec installed ogg and filter subtitles not have trouble playing it. The. Divx simply need to have installed a recent version of DivX codec. Therefore, we have installed what is necessary to reproduce Matroska.

Matroska

We can identify them to bring their files extensions. Mka (for audio files) and. Mkv (for video files).

     * Official web site: http://matroska.org/
           Or download page: Downloads Matroska Pack
                 + Direct download: Download

Important note: It appears in this Matroska Pack including fddshow and AC3 filter so that is not supposed lack haria install them separately.

Players:

I recommend the following:

    1. Windows Media Player (comes with Windows)
    2. DivX Player (comes with the DivX codec)
    3. BSPlayer (download below)
    4. VLC Media Player (read files incomplete or defective, very simple but powerful; download below)

BSPlayer

This is one of the best and most complete players; also consumes very few resources. When a film comes in two languages (English dual-english) BSPlayer allowed to hear only one of the two languages and not the two at the same time as the Media Player. Also allows for the inclusion of Subtitles.

     * Official web site: http://www.bsplayer.org/
           Or download page: http://www.bsplayer.org/html/download.html

VLC Media Player

Lee incomplete video files, for example while you downloaded with eMule can read. Party. Lee also files that are slightly defective. Supports multiple audio tracks. It is very simple in its interface, but they say it "will swallow everything." It is available for a lot of Operating Systems. It is open source. Lee also DVD, VCD.

     * Official web site: http://www.videolan.org/
           VLC product or Web: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

GSpot - Scheduled to know the codec used in a movie

With this program we can discover or know that codecs have been used to ripear film or video. Also provides more information as bitrate, the resolution, if we codecs compatible ....

     * Web official program: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Here is a catch:

Knowing or know of a video codec

On the right tells us that codec video and audio codec used. In this film we see is a DivX-AC3. Also tells us if you have more than 1 audio track (Stream).

Players DivX Boards

Supporting many formats, but most have problems with the files that use any of these things:

     * Packager Matroska
     * Packager GMOs
     * Packager. DivX
     * Audio OGG

The standard formats more and more used in the current rips, seeking support for these aircraft and using groups like SDG are:

     * XviD AVI + + Mp3
     * XviD AVI + + AC3

This has the disadvantage of not enjoy advanced as packers or Matroska. Divx that offer menus as DVDs, or subtitles and caratulas in the same file. Nor can disfrtuar Ogg audio, which is better than the Mp3 and above would allow use 5.1 occupy much less an audio Ac3.

Use this information to make backups of your current movies, or watching them after downloading from Internet. Google. Luck!

There is an app, its a codec for the media player. You have to search for "Matroska splitter". Its a clean install, and you will notice you can now select languages on the media player with right click menu.
